303 is the taupo president. his bike was his from bitd. he said he welded parts of bikes together? the rear drop outs were a kz kuwahara for sure but i couldnt pick anything else?

I must add, that all the rubbish taupo gets as a shite track, it was mint to roll around on an old bike. it reminded me of tracks back in the day... a bit bumpy and soft but a hell off a lot of fun..and it even managed to make me bleed!!
Cant wait to race there again !! bring on kapiti o.s.c.a.r.s

Yeah I couldnt agree more Dave.. Taupo is a cool track! Plenty of peddaling and mint jumps.. I just wish I'd had a bit more time to ride it before Sundays racing.
Last time I raced there was the tracks first ever meeting.. National qualifying round in 83 and I probably got around it 10 seconds faster back then!!

Good on ya mate on taking home the hardware and cheers to Steve for organising the retro ride..

I didnt know about the Taupo rep being bad. Looks like a great track from the vid. Glenn must have been flying, each pic of him with rooster tails coming out from his wheels......

And I guess thats why I couldnt pick the bike.

Hi Guys - the bike is completely home made out of old 10 speed frames and some stainless steel exhaust tubing. Back in the day I couldnt afford a decent bike so a good mate built me a frame from scratch based on the geometry of his "Flying Rhino" imported by Mitchell Cycles in New Plymouth. Took a few iterations with the odd break and such but we finally got it right. Havent had the heart to get rid of it all these years - Taupo was it's first outing for 20 years! Was great fun - might have to do it again one day. Thanks for all riders making a great day on Sunday. Do you find this valuable?

Yep Radical Rick Rahouls ''PK'' is nice alright , he should put some photos up ,but he may want to twink out the bungys we put on his handle bars to his seat ,which all of us old skoolers thought would be safer for him an mainly us, to try and keep him in a straight line.(we may need to get stronger ones)

I dont think its a bike issue, he crashed in front of me on his new school bike on Thursday. Maybe trainer wheels on all his bikes? Lol.

Yeah cheers fellas!!

The only parts on the PK that are mine from bitd are the Sugino one piece cranks(slightly bent on biketowns first jump in about 82/3).. DX pedals.. Sugino spider .. Excaliber seatpost clamp.. and sometimes My Araya rims/sunshine hubs.
The rest I got from the States about 6 months ago..
The F/F has had little use and are still in sweet nik with original powder coat and stickers, dropouts still mint and I installed dropout savers.. Other parts are..
New grafite Tuffs..
nos profile XXL stem..
nos bullseye seatpost..
nos Kashimax mx seat(swapped for older one when racing)..
Used but mint SE Powerwing bars.
It was on display (with Z-rims)at the reunion if you got a chance to check it out.
Very cool to ride and a lot of fun to race.. Got a super responsive front end..haha thats my excuse!
I'll try get some pics up this week.

Did you find it on ebay? It is a very tidy and im jeolous. How did you find the process of importing a bike from the US and is there things you can share with us that would make the process easier for someone looking to do something similar. Do you find this valuable?

The process is easy. Dont tell your wife what your doing...just do it and pay later..
As far as ebay goes, sign upto paypal and only bid on stuff that is sent worldwide, unless you contact the seller first.
Ive never had a problem with parts arriving on my doorstep, the problem is getting home before your wife and bolting it on before she notices

Yeah I did find it on ebay.. most brands of old school bmx's pop up on there and Its best just to keep an eye on ebay on a regular basis until the bike/frame or parts you are looking for are listed..(if they are not already)
When you set up your ebay account you will also definitely need a paypal account. (by far the easiest and securest/safest way to pay for anything on ebay)
Most sellers will send out of the US but there is a few that dont.
Buying is a pretty simple process and your parcel usually shows up on your doorstep within 4-10 days.
You can be fairly confident that whatever you buy is going to show up as most of these guys use ebay as their business and want to maintain a good reputation..
I have bought a good amount of stuff and (touchwood) have not had a problem yet.

Beware!!! it can become addictive mate, I think a few members of this site can be found at bmxbikebuyers anonymous meetings..

So whats ya plan Andre? you looking to build a bike for the oscars??

Thanks guys for your advice. At this stage its just an idea. I have owned most of the major brands of bikes of the 80's and it is the one i didnt have that most interests me. The bike my sister got and what i would choose to rebuild is a titan '87' T1000 looptail. She had it in red which was cool and another club member got it in bare metal which looked great when the sun was on the welds and showed a variety of colours. There is some photos of it on bmxmuseum Do you find this valuable?
